Job Purpose
The Junior Spare Parts Leader supports the efficient management of spare parts inventory and daily Parts Room operations to ensure equipment reliability and minimize downtime. This role assists with stock control, data accuracy, and coordination with Maintenance, Production, Procurement, and Finance teams. The position also contributes to process improvements and cost-saving initiatives while developing leadership skills in preparation for future growth opportunities.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Support Spare Parts Inventory Management: Assist in maintaining optimal stock levels, monitoring usage trends, and managing obsolete or slow-moving parts to ensure alignment with the Ontex Global Spare Parts Strategy.
- Parts Room Operations: Support daily activities including receiving, inspecting, stocking, issuing, and organizing spare parts while ensuring accuracy, cleanliness, and compliance with safety standards.
- System and Data Management: Maintain accurate records within inventory management systems (CMMS/ERP) and support the integrity of system data through timely updates.
- Team Support and Development: Provide day-to-day guidance to Parts Room staff, assist with training, and share feedback on process improvements and team needs.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Maintenance, Production, Engineering, Procurement, and Finance to ensure part availability, cost efficiency, and accurate reporting.
- Continuous Improvement: Contribute to initiatives that enhance inventory accuracy, process efficiency, and cost savings while adhering to company procedures and compliance standards.
The Team(s) I Will Be Collaborating With
The Junior Spare Parts Leader will work closely with multiple departments to ensure effective spare parts management and operational efficiency, including:
- Maintenance – to support timely parts availability for equipment repairs and preventive maintenance.
- Production – to align spare parts readiness with production schedules and minimize downtime.
- Engineering – to ensure correct part specifications and support technical updates or modifications.
- Procurement – to coordinate with the Indirect Procurement Leader on supplier relations, cost control, and strategic sourcing initiatives.
- Finance – to provide accurate inventory usage and valuation data for reporting and compliance.
- Parts Room Team – to support daily operations, train clerks, and maintain accuracy and organization.
Prior Job Requirements
The ideal candidate will have prior experience in spare parts inventory or warehouse operations, including activities such as receiving, stocking, issuing, and conducting cycle counts. Familiarity with inventory management systems (such as CMMS or ERP) is preferred. Candidates should have experience working with cross-functional teams—including Maintenance, Production, and Procurement—and demonstrate strong attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping.
Educational Requirements
- A high school diploma or equivalent (GED) is required.
- An associate degree or coursework in supply chain management, logistics, or a related field is preferred.
- Additional training or certification in inventory management or ERP systems would be considered an asset.
Physical Demands and Requirements
- Manual Handling: Regularly lifting, carrying, and moving spare parts and materials within the Parts Room. Some items may be heavy or bulky.
- Standing & Walking: Frequent periods of standing, walking, and moving around the Parts Room or plant to retrieve or issue parts.
- Repetitive Motions: Repeated use of hands and arms for tasks such as picking, stocking, labeling, and data entry.
- Bending, Stooping & Reaching: Regularly required to bend, stoop, reach, or kneel when accessing inventory in storage locations.
- Visual & Cognitive Requirements: Ability to accurately read part numbers, labels, and system data; maintain attention to detail for inventory tracking and documentation.
- Use of Equipment: Operate basic warehouse equipment such as carts, small lifts, or hand tools safely.
- Environmental Conditions: Work in a warehouse/Parts Room environment, which may involve moderate noise, temperature variations, or dust.
- Travel Requirements: Ability to travel up to 5% of the time for plant support or cross-site collaboration.
