Lead Machine Operator (Machine Operator 1) - 12hr Night Shift (6:45pm - 7am, 2-2-3)

To reinforce our Production & manufacturing team we are looking for a Lead Machine Operator (Machine Operator 1) - 12hr Night Shift (6:45pm - 7am, 2-2-3).

The Machine Operator 1 role exists at Ontex to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the production line while upholding the company’s standards for safety, quality, and performance. The position is pivotal in leading the team on the line, ensuring operational excellence, and proactively addressing issues that may impact production. By taking a leadership role, troubleshooting challenges, and ensuring continuous improvement, the Machine Operator 1 contributes directly to achieving key performance indicators, such as Overall Equipment Efficiency (OEE) and scrap reduction goals.

 

What am I expected to deliver, and what are my main tasks?

Operational Leadership: Lead and supervise the production line team, ensuring smooth and safe operation of machinery.

Troubleshooting and Problem-Solving: Quickly identify, analyze, and resolve technical issues on the line to minimize downtime and prevent production delays.

Performance Management: Drive the team toward achieving OEE targets and meeting or exceeding scrap reduction goals.

Standard Compliance: Ensure all operations are conducted according to Ontex’s established standards and best practices, following work instructions, safety guidelines, and quality protocols.

Excellence (TPM, Lean) Tools Utilization: Implement and apply Ontex’s operational excellence tools (OMEX) to identify improvement opportunities and drive continuous performance enhancements.

Training & Development: Train and mentor team members on machine operation, troubleshooting techniques, and safety protocols. Foster a culture of learning and improvement across the line.

Safety and Quality Assurance: Maintain a safety-first mindset and adhere strictly to quality procedures, ensuring products meet required standards and minimizing any risk to team members or equipment.

Reporting: Track and report key performance metrics, including OEE, scrap, and downtime. Provide feedback and insights to supervisors and management for decision-making and improvement initiatives.

5S and Workplace Organization: Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area by following 5S principles. Regularly assess your section for opportunities to improve organization, cleanliness, and efficiency.

What do I need to be successful in this job?

Experience and Skills:

  • Prior experience in machine operation, preferably in a fast paced manufacturing environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to troubleshooting and resolving technical issues.
  • Experience with operational excellence tools (TPM, Lean) or a willingness to quickly learn and apply these methodologies.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple tasks simultaneously.

Leadership Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and train a team to ensure consistent performance and achievement of production goals.
  • Excellent communication skills to interact with team members, peers, and supervisors effectively.

Safety and Quality Focus:

  • A strong understanding and commitment to workplace safety and quality assurance procedures.
  • Ability to enforce standards and instill a safety-first mentality across the team.

Technical Knowledge:

  • Solid understanding of machine mechanics and ability to operate, adjust, and maintain equipment.
  • Familiarity with OEE, scrap goals, and other performance metrics related to machine operations.
